The Nigerian Nurses Association of USA, Inc. is a non-profit professional organization whose members are Nigerian Registered Nurses residing in the United States.

NNAUSA, Inc. was formed on April 27, 2002 out of the need of our community.It was observed that many Nigerians were neglectful of their health and as a result, developing preventable chronic diseases and dying from them.

Also, in the last decade, our country has been threatened by many major health problems like infectious diseases which are also associated with poor hygiene, poor sanitation and poverty.

Although research has shown that intervention such as provision of information, education, and communication for behavior changes have resulted in decrease in morbidity and mortality rate from preventable chronic diseases like high blood pressure, Diabetes and communicable diseases (HIV/AIDS); but a lot of Nigerians are still dying at an alarming number from these diseases.

To respond to this, and knowing the impact of community health education on these diseases, the Nigerian Nurses in the U.S.A have come together to make a difference in the community by providing expert knowledge through health education to promote healthy habits and lifestyle changes among Nigerians in the U.S.A. and back at home.

And also foster educational and professional growth among Nigerian Nurses through networking and mentoring. We also believe that the improvement in the overall health status of a population contributes to the economic growth of a country in several ways:

• The addition of monetary resources to the economic development of a country that would have been spent on treating diseases and illnesses.
• Increase in the number of children who can attend school and eventually participate in their country’s economic growth.
